In March 2016 the Police Minister Liza Harvey visited the refuge and an article was published in the West Australian on March 12th. The Deputy Premier was fabulous in making the women and children as well as making the staff feel heard and cared for.
Minister Liza Harvey really listened to the grassroots knowledge and experience from victims and salvos workers in the domestic violence field. The Minister is making efforts to understand the problem not only in Western Australia but also what all of Australia is facing with the domestic violence in our community.
Publicity like this shines a spotlight on domestic violence as an issue and generates awareness and conversation, which we hope can have a lasting impact on breaking the cycle once and for all.
